Christmas Social Film for Audi using Macro Lenses & Miniature Lighting

Not everything is as it seems. That's exactly the idea behind this live-action Christmas social film for Audi - and it's what makes it work.

The brief was to shoot a piece of festive social content promoting Audi's Christmas special Santa's Grotto experience, a seasonal event where children get their moment with Santa while the grown-ups browse the showroom floor. A smart mechanic that needed an equally smart piece of film to launch it.

The creative hook? A beautifully shot sequence of what appears to be a real Audi being put through its paces, sleek, cinematic and completely convincing. Except it isn't real. It's a remote-controlled toy.

To pull off the illusion, we used macro filming techniques and purpose-built miniature lighting rigs to replicate the look and feel of a full-scale automotive shoot. Every lighting decision, every camera angle was designed to sell the scale and to keep the audience guessing for as long as possible. The reveal only comes at the very end, when the car bumps gently into Santa's foot and we pull back to see the remote control in his hand. The spell is broken, the smile lands, and the message is clear. Audi's Christmas event is a place where the whole family gets to have fun.

It's the kind of idea that travels well on social, visually intriguing, genuinely surprising, and with a warmth that fits perfectly with the festive season and the Audi brand.
